Am I The Only One?



So this evening while opening the Instagram app, I noticed at the bottom of the app that it now says "from facebook". When reading I was completely surprised and I never even realized that Instagram was even slightly related to Facebook. Facebook and Instagram have two completely separate user demographics and I think I have an idea of why Facebook wouldn't try to force their app onto Instagram.


It is apparent that the majority of Instagram users, or at least avid users, are the younger generation of children and teenagers. While Facebook is primarily adults and generation X. My idea to why Facebook stays a separate entity from Instagram is primarily influenced by our need for autonomy. When teenagers and younger adults are given a platform to express themselves mostly free from adults and parents, we are given a sense of freedom and our own individuality. While many older folks still use Instagram there are many settings like activating your account private and hiding stories and posts from certain users, allowing the Instagram user base to express themselves.

    Well, Facebook is related to Instagram, because Facebook own Instagram. The youngish and old go to Facebook, so Facebook using its resource want traffic from Instagram to also end up into Facebook. Instagram has many young users, so Facebook would like more young folk to also use it for a more varies and larger audience.

My Relation With Social Media

My relationship with the media is essential because it allows for my connection with friends and family, and the current events going on around the world. Some of the social media apps that I use regularly are Snapchat and Instagram. One of the negatives of having social media is its creation for addiction for my phone. According to my iPhone settings screen time, I spend an average of 9 to 10 hours on my phone. But in my defense, most of those hours are later night hours when I'm going to bed. With my obvious addiction to my phone, this creates barriers for doing actual important things like homework, chores or hanging out with family and friends.
